POSITION OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Head of Product, as well as interacting with the Chief Data Scientist, you will be a key member of the engineering team. As the lead front-end engineer, you will play a major role in designing, implementing, deploying, and supporting our next-generation product. As such, you must be a seasoned, well-rounded software engineer—not just a programmer—with ample experience implementing visual representations of statistical data using RESTful API’s, as well as deploying via AWS. Since we are a small team, you also need to be able to adapt to changes in priorities, and to fill in for other team members in other technical roles when needed…accordingly, full-stack experience is a definite plus.
SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Build highly reliable and scalable products in JavaScript, PHP, HTML/CSS, Python, and SQL
- Proficient in testing and deploying production-quality front-end applications and API’s in an AWS environment
- Experience working on API-driven products with strong separation of business logic from presentation
- Understand data modeling, schema development, and techniques for working with large data sets
- Experience using at least one framework such as Angular or React
- Experience visualizing data in different manners (charts, scorecards, tables, etc.)
- Familiar with BI tools such as Apache Superset (preferred), Tableau, or Metabase
- Familiarity with professional software engineering practices for the full development life cycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, and testing
PREFERRED PROFILE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, and/or other quantitative field of study; or equivalent work experience in software engineering in lieu of formal degree
- Communicative and team player, ready to contribute and help others achieve common goals and objectives
- 3+ years of experience developing web-based applications
- 3+ years of experience with JavaScript and HTML/CSS
- 3+ years of experience with PHP
- Strong knowledge of SQL databases
- Experience with front-end data visualization libraries such as D3 or alternatives
- Proficient with version control using Git
- Proficient in third-party integration using RESTful API’s and/or vendor-supplied SDK’s
- Experience with Material UI is a plus
- Experience developing mobile apps is another plus
- Authorized to work in the US
